Say this much for Fox News: its hosts have been pretty transparent about the outlet’s editorial standards.
It happened again on Monday, when Fox anchor Jon Scott promised to cover a White House presser if and only if the topic shifted to a House select committee on Benghazi, which will be headed up by Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC).
With White House aide John Podesta delivering a presentation on energy and climate during the press briefing, Scott couldn’t hide his shock.
“Jay Carney is normally at this podium. This is one of his understudies, you might say,” Scott said referring to Podesta, who is not actually one of Carney’s understudies.
“Talking about energy efficiency, of all things, right now. But if they get to some questions about this House select committee, how it will work, we will take you back there live,” Scott added right before teasing a story about a “gruesome discovery at a bachelor party.”
Later in the broadcast, Scott’s co-anchor Jenna Lee promised viewers that she’d “bring any updates as we get them if the White House weighs in on this issue at all.”
The 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate that left four Americans dead has been hyped relentlessly by Fox News, with the channel mentioning the word “Benghazi” no fewer than 1,101 times in the past year.
Carney eventually returned to the podium to field a question about Benghazi and, as promised, Fox promptly cut back to the briefing return.
Following the emergence of an email that conservatives believe provides evidence of a White House cover-up (it doesn’t), it’s been all Benghazi all the time on Fox.
The channel ditched President Obama’s joint press conference last week with German Chancellor Angela Merkel but promised to return if someone posed a question related to Benghazi.
Yet Major Garrett and other White House Press Corps bozos insist that Fox reporters are true journalists.
Yes yes I’m sure all 1 - 2 million average daily viewers (< 0.5% of the population) are quite outraged. Regrettably, the keel-over rate does not match the replacement rate so even that noise shrinketh by the hour.
Why any attention is paid to FOX news can only be explained by the same fascination with car crashes. Can’t… look… away…
I was hoping to see the gruesome discovery at the bachelor party. Come on TPM, where are your journalistic standards???
Well, c’mon. It’s an election year. If it doesn’t make The Fox-Toxxed demo angry or scared, it’s “propaganda.”
What they are doing is trying to define their opponents early, just like Obama did to Mittens. The problem is, a Kookfart is useless at defining someone and it has about as much for legs as a snake.
